The processes quality in a water treatment system are determined by the quality of the source water and the treated water quality requirements. The selected processes can generally be categorized into three parts: pretreatment system, advanced (or deep) treatment system, and terminal (or final) treatment system. Usually, the pretreatment stage includes multi-media filters, activated carbon filters, water softeners, iron and manganese removal filters, microfiltration units, among others. The advanced treatment involves membrane-based processes and ion exchange technologies. The terminal treatment encompasses methods such as ozonation, ultraviolet (UV) disinfection, along with polishing mixed beds, electrodeionization (ED), or capacitive deionization (CD) treatment, etc.
